The world can suck my ass!!!! Don’t Piss Me Off!!! – Tribute to Thomas Jefferson

Life@42 Scale Exhibit #TOZOO

I figured that title would get your attention 😉

I spent my 42nd Birthday at the Toronto Zoo in full Disconnected Zen.

On that day, I took a picture that would become the foundation of what I call The Life@42 Don’t Piss Me Off!!! Scale.

The concept is that we react very differently at the three degrees of conflict resolution.  Most people exhibit very clear signals as they progress through failed conflict resolution.  You need to be very knowledgeable as to what counter-position you wish to take at those various degrees.  Similarly, you need to decide whether it is smart to continue to engage.  As with every conflict resolutions there are always two variations on a theme that exhibit and are dictated by the very counter decisions we take.

For this I am reminded of one of my favourite quotations from Thomas Jefferson.

“In matters of style, swim with the current; in matters of principle, stand like a rock.” —Thomas Jefferson

So I present to you The Life@42 Don’t Piss Me Off!!! Scale. Continue reading

2011 – “Give Me Fringe or Give Me Death” – Google (Search) vs. Facebook (Discovery)

My thanks to Sara for including my view of Google (Search Model) vs. Facebook (Discovery Model) in her recent blog entry.

My friend, Robert Lavigne ( @rlavigne42) has this brilliant insight about Facebook vs. Google:

We are shifting from a search model to a discovery model. The very nature of this terrifies Google who have made their fortune on search. Facebook on the other hand is based entirely on the discovery model. The discovery model taps into the 3 degrees of connectivity (friend, friend of friend, … ). As such, it allows us to become aware of things that we didn’t know about in the first place. Yes you can search on it, once you hear about it for more details, but how does new knowledge get discovered in the first place? Via a social network based on the concept of weak ties and disconnected interests. In a world where content is become so readily available, the real value is in the semantics of the content. As such, content is free and context is where the value is. The discovery model allows us to use our social network to put not only context on the content being acquired, but also exposes our insight to that of others. Simply put search cannot compete with the discovery model as you need to know what you don’t know first before learning something new.

Sara brings up a comment regarding the recent Facebook Cartoon Character Campaign against child abuse. In her blog she states

The famous Facebook cartoon character campaign. It started at the end of November, a week later the children’s charity, the NSPCC, claimed it had no involvement in it. You can read more here and here.

The campaign generated 90,000 fans of the call to action with a clear measurement for engagement (changing their profile pic). The fact that the NSPCC claim they had no involvement in it, speaks volumes for the social era we are living in when even the marketing campaigns of brands are being run successfully within a crowd-sourced community. The fact that the NSPCC could not generate similar levels of ROI and ROE speaks volumes to closed-networked marketing silos that are pre-dominant in many organizations.

Which leads to the questions. Who truly owns your brand? Are you engaging with those using your Brand without your involvement? Are you opting to leverage that campaign or shut it down?

Is your company fully collaborating with your market-space to generate levels of marketing your 1.0 organization cannot remotely entertain mentally or physically?!?!

Take Care,
Rb

Fame…Fortune…Family…Facebook…Fatality and our Final Resting Place

Life is short and it is often shorter for others. Today, I put together a tribute/memorial video for a FB connection of mine. Paul had lost a racer friend to a brain aneurism (correction: Stomach Aneurism) at the age of 35, shortly after I celebrated my 42nd birthday.

For a while now, I have pondered whether society is ready for the reality of the Facebook Graveyard.  The reality is that we are connected to far more weak ties than any other generation in the history of mankind.

With a Baby Boomer generation reaching the end of their line and sudden GenX deaths, will humanity become stronger or weaker when surrounded by the massive amount of sickness and death that comes with having a strong social network.

It is not ironic, but probable happenstance, that I first connected with Paul when I put together a tribute for another fallen racer.  Paul is responsible for the Mark Donohue Reunion.  The reunion commemorates both the life, times and memory of Mark.  In a mark of irony, Mark died from a brain hemorrhage after an F1 crash at the 1975 Austrian Grand Prix.

What are your thoughts on the upcoming Facebook Graveyard?

Take Care,

Rob / @RLavigne42

How are you doing? What are your plans for closing out 2010?!!?

Today, I received an inquiry by a connection on LinkedIn.  He inquired

Rob,

How are you doing? What are your plans for Christmas?

Jay

I used the opportunity in replying to Jay’s inquiry to put together a summary that is worthy of a blog entry to share with those who will eventually inquire on the same subject in the coming month.

WOW!

A blog generating time savings and cost savings as opposed to multiple e-mails and synchronous messaging.

HOW CAN THAT BE?  YOU CRAZY MAN! eMAIL RULES!!!!!

<sarcasm mode off ;-)>

Here was my reply for your shared transparent reusable content store 🙂

Hey Jay,

Nice to hear from you. Keeping things on the down low and cost free mode again this Christmas. Zero income in 2010 will do that for ya! Not saying that actually as a complaint, but a status of reality. 2010 has been a tough year to say the least. However, it has also been an amazing year.

I kept building up TheDigitalGrapevine (#TDGv) and my Personal Brand RLavigne42. I spent massive amounts of hours in the video editing suite putting out over 200 videos in 2010 alone. The sheer difference in quality from when I started is huge. Here is the latest piece I did based on footage I took last night and was fully edited and live by start of business day today.

#TDGv #Movember: @RLavigne42 “Stealth-Mo” Reveal and Prostate Cancer Awareness Segment

I also have a multi-segment vodcast series based on a one hour live interview/Q&A as a monthly keynote for an Agile practitioner in the GTA area called Collaboration in the Social Era with Robert Lavigne (231 views so far)

Turned 42 and launched my Life@42 (2 years in the works) social novel . Currently, it is a new blog mixing old and new content from the last 2 years and the upcoming year. The plans for it are far far greater however.

Here is some of its initial material that is interest to my current state.

They knew not what they unleashed in the haste to retain their crumbling status quo.

#TDGv #Movember: My Motivation is to change the face of men’s health

My primary data store My Thoughts Enclosed… is still live since it’s launch in March 2009 and has catalogued every aspect of my research over the last two years. That covers over 15,000 tweets to key thoughts and artifacts and hundreds and hundreds of personal and aggregated entries. Couple of reads you would enjoy.

The Three Gears of Enterprise Social Media Adoption

A Brief Background on the Emergence of @RLavigne42

20 Things Every Gen Y Needs to Know Today

Of all the ventures this year, my creation of #TDGv Studios is probably the biggest success of the lot outside of building up my personal brand worldwide. The last interview I did was with a connection in Iraq (now in Washington DC). Not a job interview, but actually being interviewed for his blog.

Here is the entry that links to the announcement of moving from The @Rlavigne42 Podium to the soon to be very formal #TDGv Studios

Words of Thanks for Givings and the Launch of #TDGv Studios

If you now do a search on Robert Lavigne on Google Canada and hit I’m Feeling Lucky, I am the top hit in Canada for that name. All based on leveraging my @RLavigne42 Digital Footprint across 20+ social networks and 2.0 sites.

Long answer, but figured I would likely convert this to a blog entry as the question will come up a lot I am sure in the coming month.

Having said all that….

HOW ARE YOU!?!?

Thanks Again and Merry XMas.

They knew not what they unleashed in the haste to retain their crumbling status quo.

Tomorrow is a Brave New World! Tomorrow I am turning 42.

Two years ago I turned 40.   On that day overlooking the Grand Canyon, I made the harsh decision to either challenge the cultural state of my employment or be forced to move into the far more terrifying world of unemployment for the unemployable.  I had ballooned to 265 pounds, puking 3-4 times a week from the tension, and my wedding engagement was falling apart all around me.  I simply was not in a good physical or mental state of being.

#TDGv #Movember: My Motivation is to change the face of men’s health

During November 2010, I participated in #Movember.  As I was working from home doing mostly video editing, I figured I would go with what I termed my “Stealth-Mo”.  The idea is that due to my low level of IRL engagements during the month of November, I would be able to do a shock and awe with my Movember ‘stach.

People first got a taste for it when I attended the November The Art of Management event.  It was great to see so many of my followers and influencers participating in this yearly event to help bring awareness to Prostate Cancer.

On my 42nd birthday while spending the day zenning at the Toronto Zoo, I shot a quick video of the “Stealth-Mo”.

Last night after a long day of planning and strategizing how I would monetize the last 2 years of my research and networking, I attended the final event commemorating Movember in Toronto hosted by Sean Moffitt.  I had previously interviewed Sean about his upcoming book WikiBrands.

I was fortunate enough to capture a few great #Movember Stories from Martin Cleaver, Sean Moffitt and Sameer Mohamed.  Here is my #TDGv Tribute to #Movember 2010.

As an aside, this video is a montage of how I spent my 42nd Birthday at the Toronto Zoo.

I would also highly recommend Sense Appeal Coffee Roasters.

P. A. I. N….P. A. I. N…PAIN #Fail #Learn #Adapt #Grow

During my transition from a 1.0 to a 2.0 member of this global community, I was in a lot of pain (mental and physical).  That pain however, was nowhere as bad as the pain I was in on my 40th birthday when I put in motion Life@42 #Click4More.

It is not ironic than, that I was first introduced to Travis Pastrana around the same time. Travis to me has come to symbolize the power of focussed determination amongst massive and substantial failures at great pain to oneself and those around him.  Travis feels no fear during the day, but suffers nightly terror attacks unbeknown to himself but suffered often by those close to him.

During the same time, I was introduced to Robert Kavanagh.  Robert has a great story about both his own transformation and the value proposition of a company he is very proud of “The Art of…” Productions.  One day perhaps, Robert will let me share those stories captured in that majestic theatre which symbolized his aspirations.

<this spot reserved for the interviews with Robert ;-)>

The key to Travis’ success was his continued vision towards his ideal state of grace and determination to drive it to the checkered flag.  #FAIL to him was but a mere shift in air currents that required a course adjustment to achieve the perfect landing at his destined destination.  Travis Pastrana having conquered stunts, nitro circuses, GenY Games somehow called X, rally racing, uncountable world records, is now targeting NASCAR victory in his rookie 2011 year.

Closer to home, Robert was instrumental in me attending The Art of Management, The Art of Marketing and The Art of Cooking.  During those wonderful events, I got to listen, learn, interact and become socially connected to many of the speakers.  On Thursday, December 2, 2010, I am fortunate to be having a 20 minute skype chat with Mitch Joel of Six Pixels of Separation.  Not only was I able to develop “weak ties” with Mitch thanks to Robert, but I will be able to hear first hand from Mitch on what he thinks of Enterprise 2.0 (my passion for these last 2 years).

So to Travis, Robert and Mitch, I would like to dedicate this #TDGv Video to you.

Thank You Travis for your inspiration.

Thank You Robert for your generosity.

Thank You Mitch for your hospitality.

Rob / @RLavigne42
